Thuringia has 11 statewide public holidays: the nine nationwide ones, Reformation Day on 31 October and, uniquely, World Children's Day on 20 September, kept since 2019. In 2027 World Children's Day falls on a Monday and makes a long weekend from 18 to 20 September. Under section 2 of the holiday and commemoration act, Corpus Christi is a holiday in municipalities with a predominantly Catholic population; because the planned ordinance was never issued, section 10 keeps the 1994 rule in force. It mainly concerns the district of Eichsfeld, plus individual places in the Unstrut-Hainich and Wartburg districts. No official municipality list has been published; ask your local council if in doubt. In 2027, 6 statewide holidays fall on weekdays and 255 working days remain. Ten leave days can buy 24 days off, and 32 in 2028.

World Children's Day and a missing ordinance
The Thuringian holiday and commemoration act provides for the state government to designate the municipalities with Corpus Christi by ordinance. That ordinance still does not exist. Section 10 therefore keeps Corpus Christi as a holiday wherever it was one when the act took effect in 1994. That is legally sound but confusing for employees; in the calculator, choose under "Your municipality" whether Corpus Christi applies to you.
World Children's Day was added in 2019, after Thuringia had long been among the states with few holidays. How Thuringia differs from its neighbours is shown by Saxony, with the Day of Repentance, and Saxony-Anhalt, with Epiphany.
