Saxony-Anhalt has 11 statutory public holidays: the nine nationwide ones plus Epiphany on 6 January and Reformation Day on 31 October. That makes it the only eastern state with Epiphany, otherwise kept only by Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, even though Catholics are a small minority in Saxony-Anhalt. Reformation Day carries special weight here: Martin Luther published his theses in Wittenberg in 1517, and Eisleben is where he was born and died. In 2027 Epiphany falls on a Wednesday and Reformation Day on a Sunday. 6 holidays fall on weekdays and 255 working days remain. The start of 2027 is especially good: New Year's Day on Friday, Epiphany on Wednesday, two working days in between. Four leave days give you 1 to 10 January off.

Luther country: Reformation Day and Epiphany
Since the early 1990s the Saxony-Anhalt holiday act has named Epiphany alongside Reformation Day. Since then the state has had eleven holidays, as many as North Rhine-Westphalia or Saxony, but spread differently over the year: two holidays at the start of the year and in the autumn, none in June.
Commuters to Saxony miss the Day of Repentance, those to Thuringia World Children's Day; but neither neighbour has 6 January.
